Serious Sam
Serious Sam Series is a first-person shooter video game series. The first game, Serious Sam, was released in 2001. The series name comes from the game's protagonist Sam Serafinowicz. The first game in the series was later followed by 3 sequels: Serious Sam II: Rebel Assault, Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, Serious Sam 3: BFE, and a re-designed version of Serious Sam 2: The Random Encounter. The current version of Serious Sam 3: BFE, currently available on Steam and other distribution servers, is actually an "enhanced" and "upgraded" version of Serious Sam 2: The Random Encounter.

Serious Sam II: The Random Encounter
Serious Sam II: The Random Encounter was originally intended to be a spin-off to the original Serious Sam. A trailer of this spin-off was shown on April 7, 2001. The game was eventually released on April 22, 2002. A sequel to the game was planned, but the project was later cancelled, and the team of Serious Sam went on to develop Serious Sam 2.
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter was released in 2004. It was a remastered version of Serious Sam 2. Unlike Serious Sam 2, the game was released on both Windows and Linux. Serious Sam 3: BFE is a re-designed version of The Second Encounter, which was released in 2009.
Serious Sam 3: BFE
Serious Sam 3: BFE was released in 2009. It is a sequel to The Second Encounter, and is the current version of Serious Sam. The game's graphics and gameplay are based on Serious Sam 2: The Random Encounter. The game has gone on to sell over 3.5 million units.
Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter
Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter was released in 2011. It is a remake of the original Serious Sam. It features HD graphics, high-quality voice acting, and a "steam system", making it possible to play on any Steam compatible PC, whether it be Windows or Linux. Serious Sam 3: BFE has Steamworks.
